The Rules of Flagmaking

According to the Flagman

1. Never use a Horizontally- or Vertically 3 Striped Flag or "Tricolour" Without any other symbols or elements.

2. Never use a Horizontally- or Vertically 2 Striped flag or "Bicolour" without any other symbols or elements.

3. Never use a single coloured flag with no other symbols or elements.

4. Use 2-4 colours. 5 Only In an emergency.

5. Keep your flag as simple as possible while-

6. Also trying to de as Distinct/Original as possible.

7. Never steal any unique symbols/ Flag Designs from other countries unless:
A: They have been changed sufficiently
B: They aren't being used anymore/ the country does not exist anymore
C: There is a Shared history with the country in question
D: The Symbol is general enough so it can be used without it being mixed up with any other country.

8. Never put a seal, emblem, Coat of Arms and such on your flag unless you've simpliefied the design sufficiently. 
(This rule may not apply to State/ Provincial, City and other such flags. The use of Emblems such as Simple shields is permitted in some cases).

9. Never put any Text or Letters in your Flag.
(This Rule may not Apply for Battle Flags, Regimental Flags, Standards and such).

10. Avoid Putting Flags into your Flag. Meaning, Avoid making Flags like
A: The South African Flag from 1928-94 
B: The infamous (British) Ensign Style Flags (This Rule May not apply when the country in question has a history linking it with the British Empire)

11. Never put the shape or outline of your country, land, island and such in your flag.

12. Don't put too many smybols and/ or Elements it your flag. Don't let the flag be too "busy"

13. Avoid having dark and other dark or bright an other bright colours next to each other without any divider create a good contrast (Rule of tincture). This could lessen the Flags visibility.

14. Never use Gold/ Yellow on Silver/ White without any divider.


15. Test your flag to see if it is:
A: Recognisable from a distance
B: Recognisable in Dark conditions
C: Recognisable next to similar looking Flags


Extra: Specific Symbols you  should avoid using:
Nordic Cross (without any other elements)
Simple Cross (without any other elements)
Iron Cross
Prussian Eagle
German Imperial Eagle
Symbols associated with right-wing organisations
Eagles and Lions (If Possible)
The Welsh Dragon (Unless the nose is removed)
Hammer and Sickle
Soviet Style Flags
US Style Flags (Ensign with Stripes) 
US State Flag Style Flags
(This May not Apply for Geographical and/ or Historical Reasons)
